Northern Cricket Frog

Northern Cricket Frog

The actual size of a Northern Cricket from is one inch, but these tiny frogs are very special. This species is endangered in New York, and have only been found in specific areas due to their habitat needs. The Northern Cricket Frog population has been negatively impacted by loss of wetland habitat, pesticide and chemical use, and due to the introduction of fish into breeding areas.
Pine Hole Bog contains some of the frog’s best remaining habitat.

Classified as a Species of Special Concern in New York. According to state law, the red-shouldered hawk warrants "attention and consideration" to prevent population loss.

The key reason for the bird's decline is the elimination of forest habitat for logging, agriculture, and development.

The hawks have been seen at Pine Hole Bog and in surrounding forests.
