Job Description for Development Associate

Duties:

Development Associate creates and administers the fundraising, public relations, and outreach activities for the Wallkill Valley Land Trust with the assistance of the Executive Director (ED) and the Development Committee, and as needed, other board members, staff, and volunteers. 

 

Responsibilities:


  • * Works with the ED and Development Committee Chair to be responsible for and implement the  development portions of the Strategic Plan,
  • * Identifies possible grant opportunities, including working with collaborating organization and volunteer leaders; Works with ED to determine grant applicability; Leads grant application preparation, and monitoring of approved grants.
  • * Identifies potential institutional funding and in-kind services; writes proposals for corporate and foundation support.
  • * Works with BoD and ED to increase organizational support and growth in the eight towns WVLT serves (written action plan).
  • * Supports the ED and the BoD to maintain and foster WVLT’s primary relationship with donors, including development of bi-annual appeal letters.
  • * Works with ED to design and implement branding/ marketing efforts for the WVLT.
  • * Coordinates efforts on donor database/ information collection with the ED, staff, and the Development Committee.
  • * Develops annual budget for fundraising, outreach, and marketing in collaboration with the ED, the Development Committee, and the Finance Committee.
  • * Works with ED on Spring and Fall Newsletter: scope, article research, editing, and securing newsletter sponsorship. 
  • * Supports content development for E-newsletter, working with ED and BoD on writing and editing, as well as monthly distribution.
  • * Leads event planning and coordinating with support of ED, staff, and BoD.
  • * Organizes location and volunteer speakers for outreach programs.
  • * Promotes the WVLT through the creation of press releases.
  • * Attends BoD meetings as needed.
  • * Such other tasks as may be necessary for the Wallkill Valley Land Trust.

 

Qualifications:

-          Bachelors degree or higher

-          At least 3 years experience in one-on-one fundraising for a not-for-profit organization in a paid or volunteer position

-          Exceptional writing and editing skills

 

Position is part-time (20 hours a week) and the WVLT office is located in New Paltz, NY.
